Thames Path Challenge 2018 · 8 September 2018 to 9 September 2018 ·

We are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of Deaf people. Our range of specialist services are delivered in BSL, including psychological therapy, social care, domestic abuse support, advocacy and more. We also collaborate and campaign to improve access to health care and information.

Story

Andrew is aiming to walk 100km (60 miles) in under 24 hours along the Thames Path (from Putney to Henley) on 8/9 September, 2018 in support of SignHealth.

There are 9 million deaf or hard of hearing people living in the UK - that is 1 in 7 people. About 40% of Deaf people experience mental health issues (compared to 20% of those who are hearing), Deaf children are more vulnerable to abuse and neglect and Deaf women are twice as likely to experience domestic abuse.

Andrew is a Trustee of SignHealth, the only national charity dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Deaf people. SignHealth’s specialist services help the Deaf community across the UK to access the help that they are otherwise denied by mainstream services.
