Unfortunately I retired at Knighton due to very problematic hamstring and knee. The 2019 Offa’s Dyke Race beat me. Thank you so much for the support and donating such a massive amount to a very worthwhile charity, I am truly humbled.. xx

We meet very few truly inspirational people in our lives. James Campling was, and still is an absolute inspiration to me. 

I got to know James late in his life, and only a handful of times. His strength, perseverance, humour and selflessness was extraordinary. His completion of the Yorkshire Three Peaks shortly after brain surgery still astounds me.

James was a trained nurse, joining the RAF as an Aeromed, a career perfectly suited to a man who’s life revolved around helping others and a love of travel.  

In 2016 James had 2 seizures during a nursing symposium, he was later diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour, glioblastoma multiforme.

For the next two years James battled the tumour,  it’s seizures, the rounds of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and the unsuccessful surgeries. 

In February 2018, James had a two and a half hour seizure. This put him back a lot and made his life a lot harder. The John Radcliffe Hospital were amazing and saved James' life. Unfortunately, James passed away on 10th April 2018. He was 29 years old.

James had less than 2 years from being diagnosed until he died. During this time, he travelled with family and friends. He went to : Iceland, Russia, Khazakstan, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Lithuania, Belarus, Norway, Greece, France, Italy, San Marino, Antarctica and Slovenia. He climbed mountains and swam in rivers. He made the most of the 2 years whilst going through treatment. 

In addition to making the most of this time, he was determined to raise money for Brain Tumour Research. Between himself and his friends they raised £30,000. Events included: 2 charity balls, climbing the Yorkshire peaks, Marathons, half marathons, triathlons and many more. James took part in as many of these as possible. He was an inspiration to everyone. Princess Alexandra presented James with an award for his charity work. Even while he was ill, he was determined to make sure everyone else was ok and would be ok after the inevitable.

The James Clifford Campling Trust was created to provide a retreat, push for greater research into Glioblastoma, and enable bucket lists.

So, James will provide the inspiration, I’ll do the running and you can give the cash. Seems like a good deal to me. X
