Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

At the age of 17 I became riddled with an inflammatory disease known as psoriasis. Battling depression, becoming socially isolated, seeing changes in myself physically and taking variations of medication are a few of the many challenges I experienced/experience, all due to suffering from this disease.

As I became older, found the right medication, found better ways of dealing with and improving the condition, I now find myself in a better place. I have a great supportive family and have found myself a beautiful woman, who all in these years have had to live with this condition through me. I have now developed the courage to not hide from or hide this from anyone anymore yet help those who also suffer from it.

As of recent, in my physiotherapy degree, I had the opportunity to complete a literature review based on physical activity and whether it had an effect on reducing the severity of this disease, as in my personal experience, reductions in weight and being physically active seemed to improve my symptoms drastically. My results identified positive correlation between weight loss and decreasing psoriasis severity yet there was slim research specifically relating to physical activity and pso severity. However, the minimal research that was available was positive, along with positive theoretical implications (I am happy to send out my lit review to anyone interested). My aim for 2018 is to make a difference, raise awareness and raise money for the psoriasis association, who fund the likes of research in aim to improve the condition yet also raise awareness of the disease.

My own mission is to do my own little series of experiments, which I'll document, to see whether increasing my activity levels by training for events like this, will improve my psoriasis severity and in aim to hopefully take part in my own research into this subject and play a role in public health in the future.

If you've taken the time to read all this, I am extremely grateful and hopefully you understand how much this means to me. Please donate, no matter how small, to help me achieve these goals. Thank you xx
