To celebrate getting married, we're asking our family and friends to make a small donation to a cause particularly close to our hearts, the Mae Tao clinic on the Thai border with Burma. The clinic provides healthcare to people who would otherwise not be able to access it: the tens of thousands of unregistered migrants from Burma living on the border, and people who travel huge distances from within Burma for medical care. It was set up by the hugely inspirational Dr Cynthia Maung, herself a migrant who left Burma after the Government's brutal crackdown on dissidents in 1989. We both had the pleasure of working at Mae Tao for six months in 2008-9 and can say from personal experience that it is a fantastic and inspiring place which provides healthcare, education and a community for many thousands of people who would otherwise be forgotten. The clinic always struggles for resources to meet the needs of the people who arrive there and the situation has become much more difficult with the recent outbreak of violence within Burma, so your donation really will make a huge difference.
