The 2.6 Challenge · 26 April 2020 ·
I am raising funds for this vital charity because I personally understand the enormous "behind the scenes" cost to individuals and families pushing back to overcome a life changing disability. My parents were both RAF veterans of WWII. The individuals they became shaped the way they approached EVERYTHING in their lives from that time forward. It is a rich legacy of commitment and service.
Eight weeks ago my lower leg was amputated due to complications from contracting Sepsis in 2017. I am learning to walk ...again... on a prosthetic limb. My chances of recovery are driven my the people around me. Dedicated focused professionals who have CONTINUED SEAMLESSLY to provide care under the ADDITIONAL burden of COVID-19. MY FAMILY have flown from other parts of the world, contributed to equipment which allows us all to still communicate, and been a 24-7 support network. This ALSO while negotiating COVID-19, home educating children, working from home, having livelihoods wiped out by lockdown....
Whatever the challenge, we are all stronger together. Regaining and keeping that strength can only be possible with time for respite and renewal for EVERYONE affected.
After eight weeks, I am learning to simply STAND UPRIGHT (VERTICALIZATION) and walk on a prosthesis. The day the London Marathon should have occurred, the 2.6 challenge was launched. I walked 18 steps that day. My goal is to walk 26 steps for the RAF.
