Campaign by Velindre Cancer Centre (RCN 1052501)
Swimming from Alcatraz is one of the most famous open water swims in the world. We are so excited for you to take on this challenge and be a part of Velindre's first ever Overseas swim!

Story

In August 2023, Andrew Davies received a life-changing diagnosis: a brain tumour. Despite an unsuccessful surgery in September 2023 due to the tumour's proximity to critical nerves, which could have led to paralysis, Andrew has shown incredible resilience. From November 2023 to January 2024, he underwent 33 rounds of radiotherapy at Velindre Cancer Centre, successfully reducing the tumour size by one-third. Starting in February 2024, Andrew began his first round of chemotherapy, a nine-month journey consisting of six-week cycles.

Throughout this arduous process, Andrew has remained positive and active, continuing to walk his dog, swim, and cycle. Now, as a testament to his determination and spirit, Andrew has been selected to join a small team to raise funds for Velindre Cancer Centre by swimming 2 miles from the iconic Alcatraz prison to San Francisco.

This once-in-a-lifetime challenge is not only a personal milestone for Andrew but also an opportunity to give back to the institution that has supported him throughout his treatment. Your support will help fund vital resources, cutting-edge treatments, and ongoing research at Velindre Cancer Centre. By donating, sharing his story, or simply cheering him on, you can make a significant difference in the lives of cancer patients and empower Andrew to achieve his dreams. Thank you for being a part of Andrew's journey and for supporting Velindre Cancer Centre. Together, we can make a difference.
