Story

After competing in the 2019 Revolve24 at "The Bend" racetrack, I am coming back to do it again this weekend after the event was cancelled over the past 2 years.

I am again raising funds for my son Hayden who is a type1 diabetic. This is not a choice for Hayden or a matter of lifestyle, this is a chronic auto immune disease that he puts up with 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Hayden has been a type 1 diabetic for 17 of his 19 years with us. He has had over 31,000 finger pricks to check his sugar level, over 2,000 cannula changes for his insulin pump that he wears 24 hours a day and he is now also wearing a Constant Glucose Monitor (CGM) that he need to change the site (needle) every week.

In 2019 Revolve24, we called out to Hayden every lap he completed to tell him what his sugar level was 10 mins ago and he would then while riding his bike, either eat something or deliver insulin so he could complete his ride.

This year he will be wearing his CGM so he will be able to know what his sugar level is at all times and adjust his levels accordingly before he goes low (Hypo) or high (Hyper)

We are so proud of Hayden and what he has already achieved and how brave he has been over the last 17 years. He refuses to let this get on top of him, is an amazing ambassador for JDRF, now has a permanent job, is taking time to make the right life decisions (deferring Uni for a year) and is a relationship with someone who understands his medical needs and they make each other better people.

Hayden now being an adult does not make things easier for us as we will never stop worrying about his condition and the complications that can happen later in life.

Those who know me, know I love my sport and my old overweight body is not in sync with my mind. For the 6hrs I will be riding (including 2hrs in the middle of the night, I will be aiming to ride 120kms. That is 20kms more than when I rode in 2019.

I have been in taper for this ride for 3 years so I am fresh and ready to go.

I know everyone has a cause that is worthy, however I ask if you are able to, to make a tax deductible donation (however large or small) and help us find a cure for this horrible auto immune disease.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story.

Andrew
