Story

Following the recent completion of a 2026 kilometres hand cycle challenge and thereafter a 12hrs continuously hand cycle in December 2021. I am now attempting to pedal a marathon a day for 30 days - 26.219 miles/(42.195 kilometres) - clocking up at least 786.57 miles/(1,265.85 kilometres). The equivalent of travelling from Belfast, Northern Ireland to Caen, France

Why am I doing this fundraising challenge for Veterans Support NI (AAVS)?

One reason is to raise funds that will assist with providing mental health counselling and other much-needed support. Each year, the small but dedicated team at AAVS work tirelessly to support veterans and their families throughout Northern Ireland.

Any support you can offer is greatly appreciated and will go a long way to supporting those who serve or have served and their families.

Andy’s story

Andy is a former Royal Irish Regiment soldier who was horrifically injured by a Taliban improvised explosive device in Afghanistan on 14th July 2008 while on a foot patrol. The force of the blast tore off his right leg and also burnt his face and eyes leaving him visually impaired. His left leg was surgically amputated 10 days later due to serious infection.

He featured in the BBC BAFTA award winning documentary Wounded, which followed his recovery journey.
