Tweed Valley Tunnel 10K Trail Run · 5 October 2019

Since 1991, Naturewatch Foundation has been committed to enhancing animal welfare in the UK and worldwide, with the ultimate goal of ending animal cruelty. This is achieved by political campaigning and lobbying, alongside a strong emphasis on raising awareness about animal welfare through education.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am the Animal Crime Manager with Naturewatch Foundation, a charity that has been speaking out on behalf of animals for over 25 years. The aim of the charity is to end animal cruelty and advance animal welfare standards around the world.

Naturewatch Foundation launched World Animal Day on the 4th of October 2003 to unite the animal welfare movement around the globe; raising awareness of animal issues and making them front-page news.

To celebrate World Animal Day in 2019, I want to raise money for the charity towards supporting its Badger Baiting Campaign.

The campaign aims to bring an end to badger baiting, sett digging, illegal lamping, killing and other acts of cruelty towards badgers involving the use of dogs.

Despite many years of dealing with wildlife crime and in particular the sadistic pastime of badger baiting, it still saddens and shocks me to see the  brutality involved and the extent of this problem.

The cruelty that takes place and the injuries that can be sustained by both by the badger and the dogs involved,  can be truly horrific. This often will result in the death of the badger,  and occasionally the dogs too, whose injuries may not be  afforded professional  veterinary  care,  for fear of detection by the authorities on those responsible, who show  little or no remorse for their own dogs or the badgers involved.

It is a pleasure to run at this event to try and raise money so Naturewatch Foundation can continue its campaign against badger baiting which involves ourselves undertaking investigations, providing school awareness programmes for Badger Groups and the Police to deliver to teenagers and key partnership working with coalition groups in the fight against this UK Wildlife Crime Priority..
