Story
What Happened?
As committed Park Run members after being inspired to run the 5K event, in non-Covid times Andy and Laura Truan are normally up on a Saturday morning to take part in the weekly 5K event at Queen’s Park (Crewe)...
However in these times, nothing is usual......so this man and wife ran Saturday’s Park Run (on 25th April) all on their own.
And instead of the well planned and marked course put on by the Park Run team on a Saturday, this duo ran around the perimeter because the park was closed.
AND.....instead of comfy well fitting running gear, these guys ran in their nurses uniforms to raise awareness of the need for more PPE for staff on the front line NHS services.
In case you were wondering Alan Parkinson set up this fundraising page for Andy and Laura to get this started.
The Charity
Andy and Laura both work for local hospitals however to make sure the money is managed in the best way for the country, donations will be paid to the NHS Charities Together initiative helping raise vital funds to continue the hard work fighting this global pandemic.
About The Truans
Both Andy and Laura are Senior Nurses (Andy being a Practitioner). Andy works in the emergency department at Leighton Hospital in Crewe and Laura is in critical care / ICU at Royal Stoke. Working on the front line, Andy and Laura have seen the incredible work being done by their colleagues in fighting Coronavirus but also the desperate need for as much support as possible as this crisis continues.
Route: Being denied acccess to the normal route through the park’s closure, Mr and Mrs Truan ran from Clocktower gate on Saturday morning, completing 3 laps of the park’s perimeter before completing the final 100m to the side entrance, making up the 5k total before making their way back home. Turns out after running it the total distance was more like 7k but these guys are suckers for punishment.
Note and thanks: This run has been organised in cooperation with the Park Run organisation.
