Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and get an idiot's-eye view into how virulent this running bug can be. Yes, I'm about to run an Ultra Marathon!

It all started with a half marathon in October ’22. A friend who had covid transferred their place to me at the last minute and I finished that in just over 2 hours...
Then in February ’23 I ran the Brighton Half Marathon in just under 2 hours...
and subsequently  jumped at the chance to do the full Brighton Marathon when another friend in my running club, Brighton and Hove Frontrunners offered me a free ticket…

So on April 2nd I finished the Brighton marathon in a perfectly respectable 4 1/2 hours and whilst the endorphins were still playing havoc with my ambitions, I went and entered an Ultra Marathon. This means on May 6th I will find myself running 50km from Horsham to Hove in the Run to The Sea.

I had 5 weeks to train up to the full marathon and 5 weeks again to train up for the Ultra Marathon. It’s been tough, my longest trail run has been 30km and my second longest was 21km, so I’m thinking it’s just like doing them on the same day, instead of on different days, right?

I've had so much support and encouragement from my friends in the running club that I'm confident and really looking forward to it. There will be a link on the day that you can track my progress too.

I want to take this opportunity to raise funds for Crisis UK, a national homelessness charity that not only supports thousands of people off the streets and into housing every year, but also campaigns and lobbies governments for permanent change to the policies that both cause homelessness and condition us to accept it as normal part of life. It's not normal, it's not necessary  and we don't have to accept it.

I've also volunteered for the last 6 years for Crisis at Christmas where we offer 100s of people hotel places and safety over Christmas, and then work with them to make sure most never go back to surviving on the streets. It really is the most amazing project to be part of and I recommend you all try it one year.
You will see people who face the worse conditions you can imagine in this country and there is no better feeling than seeing them enjoy their hotel stays and leave to move into safe accommodation with all the support they need.

So that's what your money is going to do.
