Story
This October, I'm again taking part in the 100 miles in October challenge in aid of the National Autistic Society. Autism is something with which, as many of you may know, I have personal experience and about which I feel strongly.
Now, in particular, given recent political events I think it's vitally important to get correct information out there. Autistic people do have jobs, they do contribute to society, they do have families, just like neurotypical people do. There's a saying, "you've met one autistic person, you've met one autistic person", you can't just make sweeping generalisations. It's all well and good to talk about 'curing' autism, but it's not a disease, neurodivergent people just see and interact with the world differently to neurotypicals.
The National Autistic Society supports the 700,000 autistic people in the UK and their families through specialist schools, campaigning for better rights and services, and helping organisations become more autism friendly. Their work is transforming lives and changing attitudes every day.
Any donation, big or small, would mean so much. Not only will it help keep me motivated throughout the challenge, but it will also support the National Autistic Society's work to create a society that works for all autistic people and their families. Thank you for your support 💜
