Story

I have taken part in a big cycle to raise funds for victims of extreme persecution in Syria and Iraq.  A massive THANK YOU to all who have donated.  Please click on this link:  https://www.facebook.com/muskathlon/videos/851698038267548/

I completed an 8 hour cycle on roads and rocky terrain in Jordan on Saturday 4th June between 6:00am and 2:00pm local time.  The temperature started off feeling reasonable but quickly rose to 39 degrees C.  I was passing walkers who had started at 11:00pm during the previous night.  Precautions against dehydration and heat stroke were essential.  These became much more difficult to undertake when I had punctures; 3 stops for puncture repairs, and many miles cycled on a flat front tyre. I was eventually able to change my bike.

In every sense, I had a choice about this.  Some of the refugees and internally displaced people that we have met have had no choice.  Or if they had, it was as stark as: to stay and die, or to flee and live.

I would like to continue to raise as much as possible for desperate people in Jordan, Lebanon as well as those, even more unfortunate, who remain displaced and homeless within Syria and Iraq.  So, please help raise funds for refugees facing persecution in these countries.

Open Doors works with local churches in the region.  These churches are overwhelmed by the needs of refugees of all faiths coming to live under their shelter and care.  The priority is to support physical and trauma relief for desperate Syrian and Iraqi families who have lost their homes.

Families who have been forced to run from their homes are now trapped in Jordan and Lebanon, as well as within parts of Iraq and Syria. They cannot return home, and it is almost impossible to find work so they cannot provide food for their children. Now, over 24,000 families depend on Open Doors for food every month. These emergency supplies have become a symbol of hope.

When I was in Jordan I met some of the refugees.  Their stories are immense.  It has been a privilege to meet people who have suffered such persecution.  I hope that we can continue to help them.
