Story

Andy Lock, Herman Miller International's President will be retiring this summer. The Hope School in Bangalore is a project close to his heart, so the company is asking for donations to this charity in lieu of a leaving gift.

Two decades ago, for children in the Doddanagara slum, just off Tannery Road in Bangalore east, every day was Sunday! Instead of going to school, they would spend all their days playing on the narrow lanes of the slum till their parents got back from work. As they grew a little older, the boys would work with their fathers as coolies, mechanics or carpenters, while the girls helped their mothers with chores at home or in other people’s homes. Many of them would fall prey to the negative influences that lurked in every corner of the slum.

The HOPE foundation school has brought quality English medium education to children living in and around Doddanna Nagara slum. Today, they have 327 students and classes from LKG to the 10th Grade. Children who attend our school get a well-rounded education. They have access to computers and screens in every classroom. They have a well-stocked library. They play sports and take part in competitions.
