Story
On 31st May 2022, my sister Annie Tang passed away suddenly after being diagnosed with EGFR-positive lung cancer three weeks previously.
She had been managing her APS since the diagnosis over a decade ago, but it caused complications to her treatment in the final moments of her life.
Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune disease which affects the blood and its ability to clot. An overactive immune system produces antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL), which cause the blood to clot too quickly both in veins and arteries.
During lockdown I began running, which has been hindered by a broken foot and a broken ankle, but I'm persevering! My typical training runs are 3km, so 10km is a challenge and I need to improve pace.
The ASICS London 10k is on the 9th July 2023, and it will be both a physical and emotional challenge for me, but this is nothing compared to the people managing APS on a daily basis.
Please donate, if you can, for APS Support UK, which is a small charity that helps so many people. If you can't donate, I'll take other forms of encouragement for this challenge.
