Covid Lockdown Charity Laps- Raising money for NHS · 1 June 2020

NHS Charities Together and its members across the UK are hugely grateful for the support received from so many since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Story

Last year we did a charity walk from our home in Iwade, Sittingbourne and walked (sometimes wheelchaired) to the disablement  centre at Medway Maritime Hospital, that my daughter attends regularly and has done since she was very young. It took us 6 and a half hours in total with my daughter with us, with her limited mobility and with many breaks in between.

For you to understand what a massive achievement that was, for Angel, my daughter, to walk that far, you need to know her disabilities.

Angel’s diagnosis as of now, is...

📍Proximal Femoral Focal Deficency (Absent right femur bone, absent right hip socket, curved and shortened left femur)

📍Sacral Agenesis (missing the lower part of her spine)

📍Neurogenic Bladder & Bowel

📍Severe Bilateral Talipes (club feet)

📍Previous PFO (hole in the heart; now rectified)

📍Immune compromised

📍Enlarged Brain Ventricles (susceptible to water on the brain)

📍Right Syms Amputation (since Feb 2018)

📌Was told at birth that she would never talk, communicate or walk📌

We raised a fab amount last year, which was shared equally, between Great Ormond Street Hospital and The Disablement Centre at Medway Maritime Hospital, who have both played a massive part in my daughters life, over the years and continue to do so. We will be forever grateful to them 💖

After the success of the last charity walk we did, we decided that we will aim to do a walk to raise money for a charity, every year.

Inspired by Captain Tom Moore and his amazing achievement, we have decided the best way to be able to do the “walk” with lockdown and everything that is going on right now, while my daughter and myself are classed as high risk and vunerable; to do it safely for everyone, we will use the, walking laps, idea.

We werent exactly sure how many laps we needed to do to feel like we have done “enough”, though.

After a little thought, Angel decided that, as the number 19 has had such a big impact on all of us this year (covid-19) 1900 laps is what we agreed on.

We are going to have to split it down to 100 laps a day, for 19 days straight.

The laps will be done just outside our home, to keep us isolated.

We havent ventured outside our front door since March 17th, so it will be nice to change it up a bit while remaining safe and doing something good, for an amazing charity. We want to do our bit, towards it all.

All 100% of donations will be given to the NHS charity.

One way or another, whether it was past, present and/or future, we have all had help from the NHS and with what is happening right now, im sure we all realise just how amazing the NHS truly is, especially now more than ever.

We are in this together 💛

Please donate what you can. No amount is too little.

No matter how small, every penny will help.

Thank you 💜
