Story
We know that pupils, staff, parents and friends of St Helen’s will want to do more than express sympathy and send good wishes, and
will want to offer material support to the over 1,000,000 refugees who have already been forced to flee their country. As a School we have decided to raise money to support the work of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), an organisation which brings together 15 leading UK aid charities (including The Red Cross and Save the Children) to raise funds quickly and efficiently to provide an effective humanitarian response to support the victims of large-scale disasters in countries which are unable to respond. You can find out more about the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal here: Ukraine
Humanitarian Appeal | Disasters Emergency Committee (dec.org.uk).
We will invite all pupils and staff to show their support for everybody affected by the horrifying humanitarian disaster in Ukraine by taking
part in a whole-school Charity Run on Thursday 24th March 2022. The girls will be able to walk or run a course on the school site as a sign of our sympathy for the innocent people of Ukraine who have been forced to flee their homes as a result of the invasion, and we invite you and your daughters to make donations to help DEC charities provide food, water, shelter and healthcare to refugees and families displaced by the conflict. The UK Government will match donations from the
public pound-for-pound up to £20 million. All monies received will be donated to the DEC charities’ Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. £50 will provide blankets for four families, whilst £100 will provide emergency food for two families for a month. Please help us help those who have lost belongings, jobs and loved ones during this intense conflict.
