In Loving Memory of Angela Sweeney

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
After a short, but very brave fight with terminal pancreatic cancer, on the 5th of April in the early hours of the morning, my second cousin Angela Sweeney passed away peacefully in hospital with myself and my mum at her side.
She was such a popular lady, with countless friends across the globe. Wherever she went, she always made new friends. I have seen how much of a positive impact that she has had on so many people, due to the wonderful things that have been said about her on social media, and to myself and my mum in person, whether that be via the telephone or face to face. Angela was, and still is, very much loved by many.
She was also a kind woman, who always helped others when she could. She loved helping Newport Dogs' Home, and taking the dogs for walks. She would encourage people to adopt them, and even fostered them if needed. She participated in the Danny Gans Memorial Champions Run For Life, and volunteered as a marshal in the London 2012 Olympics. When I was in university, she helped me move from my 2nd year house to my 3rd year house, and was rather intrigued by the posters that I had on my wall. I think they reminded her of her youth, when she had posters of her favourite bands and musicians on her wall. At one point she had full on wallpaper of The Beatles. They were her second favourite band after The Osmonds.
A lot of people have asked if they could donate flowers, or do something positive in Angela's memory. This gave myself and my mum an idea. In December 2020, Angela went into St David's Hospice for respite. St. David's Hospice Care provides free community-based hospice care to people with cancer or any other life threatening illness living in Gwent and Mid/South Powys. The staff there were amazingly kind to Angela. They would cook food of her choice whenever she wanted, they gave her their time and enabled her to maintain her dignity. They were also very supportive to us, her family, too. Due to Covid restrictions, only one named visitor was able to see Angela, and that was my mum, Angela's cousin. Even with the restrictions, my mum was allowed to see Angela as often as she wanted, for as long as she wanted. The nurses were very kind to my mum, and would make her cups of tea at Angela's request. Angela was at the hospice on Christmas Day 2020, and my mum visited her. The nurses offered to have a Christmas Dinner cooked for her, and assured that it would not be a problem. My mum was very thankful, but politely declined. One of Angela's presents was Paul McCartney's latest album, and she was desperate to hear it before she passed. The hospice nurses found a CD player, and made this wish a reality for her. Whenever I saw the nurses when I was on video calls to Angela, the nurses would always have smiles on their faces, and would wave to me, and call out a hello. I felt happy and relieved that Angela was being so well looked after, and kept so safe. My mum and I are very grateful for the hospice and its staff.
St David's hospice in Newport is a beautiful building. It's spacious with amazing mountain views. Each service user has their own private bedroom, with a spacious en-suite bathroom, a TV, and their own patio where they can sit and enjoy the views and the sun. The hospice has a library, and an amazing hot tub room where their service users can relax and listen to music. However, this beautiful building and its amazing staff need our help. Due to the Covid pandemic, fundraising events and St David's Charity Shops (Thrift Stores for our American friends :D) have had to be cancelled and closed, thus meaning that the hospice's financial life– blood has taken a substantial hit.
Seeing as Angela was so heavily involved with helping others, we feel that she would want to help St David's Hospice as a thank you to them for supporting and caring for her, and myself and my mum.
And this is where you lovely people come in; Angela's amazing friends from all over the world who Angela cared about so deeply. We are asking that instead of sending/donating flowers, if it would please be possible to give a donation for St David's Hospice. It can be as little, or as much as you would like. They really do provide amazing care and support, they are a vital service, and are often a light in the dark for many.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Thank you once again for taking the time to visit this page, and to read our story.
Kindest regards,
Margaret and Clare – Angela's cousins.
