Birmingham Half Marathon 2010 · 24 October 2010 ·

Acorns supports more than 800 children and over 1,100 families every year. The charity needs to raise £14 million each year to provide its care services across hospices and community settings. Your support means Acorns can continue to be there for local families facing the unimaginable.

Story

Those of you who know me well are probably wondering: 'Angela? Half Marathon? Really?'. Which, funnily enough, is exactly what I've been thinking to myself ever since that foolish, impetuous moment when I signed up to do it. 'Why not?' I thought at the time. 'I walk to work every day. And back. Through Smethwick. I'm hard, me.' Of course, when I registered, I was labouring under the rather dubious impression that 20k was only about 8 miles - I never did get the hang of the metric system.

Anyway, I'm not one to back down from a challenge - even one that might put me in hospital - and my aim is not to break any land speed records, but simply to make it round the course, alive, without giving in to the temptation of flagging down the nearest taxi as soon as I reach Pershore Road. So please, sponsor me to make it, for the very worthy cause of the Acorns Hospice. And if I get taken home in an ambulance half way round, you don't have to pay up.

Thanks everyone!
