Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are a team of doctors, nurses and support staff working in cancer research at Weston Park Hospital. We see first hand the impact the charity is having on peoples lives. We want to contribute to the charity so they can continue with their amazing work.
Thanks to donations, the charity have improved the lives of tens of thousands of people living with cancer across our region - but there's still so much more to be done.
The money that the charity raises is used to fund the things the NHS is unable to; going the extra mile for people with cancer, making the experience as easy as possible for them and their families. The charity fund a number of projects which have a direct impact on the lives of those living with cancer, to help them and their families to live lives as full as possible following a cancer diagnosis. The work they do includes:
* Giving over £300,000 each year to the Cancer Support Centre, which offers a drop in facility to help people affected by cancer cope with any problem posed by the diagnosis. Last year the centre had over 9000 visits and calls
* Spending £40,000 on community transport, run by volunteers, bringing over 12,000 patients a year from Chesterfield and Doncaster to receive treatment at the hospital.
* £30,000 is spent on complementary therapies for over 1,100 cancer patients experiencing stress, pain or other negative consequences from chemotherapy and radiotherapy
* Working with Age UK Sheffield. Every year the charity supports 350 older people with cancer living alone, in poverty or with poor wellbeing
* The charity are currently funding 17 innovative research projects including projects to improve treatments for breast cancer, skin cancer, lung cancer and prostate cancer.
