Story
I am climbing to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro early next year in order to raise £5,000 for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
I wanted a fitness challenge for this year and have always wanted to climb Kili with a good cause and a good friend. My sister has been roped into the challenge by her husband so now I have no excuses! I live in Hampshire as do most of my family and although I have never needed to ask for their service, I know about the amazing work that HIOWAA do saving many lives with no government funding at all.
I have started training to meet the gruelling demands of the climb. It is a five day walk, climbing to the highest peak in Africa, at 6,000 metres (19,300 feet!). The biggest challenge for me will be having nowhere to plug my hair dryer in and camping for the first time in my life! I am sure the climb will be a doddle.
