Story
Despite my ancestors inventing the Olympics (and just about everything else), I have never been the sportiest of girls, and I’m definitely not blessed with a naturally athletic build; in fact PE teachers would probably have laughed if I told them I was going to run a marathon one day.
However, 6 years ago I decided to put to one side all of the terrible memories from PE at High School – what were those green running shorts about?! and put on a pair of trainers and simply go for a run on a sunny day. Now, don't get me wrong, I haven't been a secret athlete for 6 years, In fact I’ve rarely ran more than 6 miles, so 26.2 miles will be quite the challenge!
I am doing this to raise money for Phab Kids - who work to support and inspire disabled and underprivileged children across the UK through inclusive residential activities, care and fun! I first got involved with activity clubs like Phab Kids when I volunteered for Kids Adventure whilst at University. Being able to see first-hand how a bit of support, fun and time can inspire those who need it most was really eye-opening. I went on to train to become a mentor to help support Autistic children through recreational activities and encouraging inclusive play. Life, as it has a tendency to do, then got in the way, and I haven't been able to do as much as I would like to help support all of the amazing work that goes on via organisations like Phab Kids, until now.
I am very proud to be running the London Marathon for Phab Kids; knowing that I am raising money to support all of the incredible work they do will get me through the gruelling training schedule, and the eventual 26.2 miles.
Thank you so much for your support, I can't tell you how much I appreciate it!
