Thanks for taking the time to visit the Arran Sweaters Challenge JustGiving page.
We're a group of friends who have two things in common: We like fizz, and we really like St Vincent's Hospice. The first one is entirely to blame for the fact that we are now taking part in the St Vincent's Hospice Arran Challenge on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 June 2014 - a gruelling 42-mile cycle around the island on Day 1, followed by a breezy 12-mile cycle on Day 2 and then a casual stroll up Goat Fell. All 2,866 feet of it.
We are not professional cyclists. Some of us are having to learn how to ride a bike again. One or two are worried about having helmet hair. And this will not be easy for any of us. But we’re doing it – and we hope to have a good laugh along the way, whilst raising funds for a really worthy cause.
We hope to raise £3,000 in support of St Vincent’s Hospice – a wonderful charitable organisation at the heart of our local community which has been offering specialised care and services to all those affected by life-limiting illness since 1988. The wonderful team works together to support the physical, psychological and emotional needs of patients and their loved ones, with day services, specialist home visits and an 8 bed in-patient unit at Howwood, in Renfrewshire.
The Hospice can often mean the difference between coping and not coping at, what can be, an extremely distressing time. It costs £5,000 per day to run the hospice and community services, over 50% of which comes from voluntary donations and fundraising events like the Arran Challenge.
We are sincerely grateful for your support – any donation of any size is most welcome. And please wish us luck!
