3 Pistes Cycle Challenge · 1 June 2014

Holidays, for most of us, offer an escape to new horizons, fun and adventure but many children never enjoy a break or a holiday. Glasgow Children’s Holiday Scheme provides that opportunity to over 200 disadvantaged families and over 500 children each year. Help support us to make memories.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

A few years ago I started doing a little volunteer work for the Glasgow Childrens Holiday Scheme - helping to clean their holiday caravans at the start and end of each season. They use the caravans to provide a break for children and families living within the Greater Glasgow area who, for one reason or another, are disadvantaged or socially excluded. For many of these children and families it is the only holiday or break they get - you can read more about the work this small charity does on their website at:

http://www.glasgowchildrensholidayscheme.org.uk/

The website is a work in progress so please remember it is run by a small team of volunteers and only two paid part time staff.

They are solely reliant on donations and being a small charity, it is hard for them to get funding and support like some of the larger charities so I wanted to help with their fundraising. That is why I am taking part in the 3 pistes cycle challenge on the 1st June this year - it is the highest cycling challenge in the UK, 102 miles in one day through the Scottish Highlands. You can read more about the challenge here:

http://www.3pistescycle.co.uk/

If the weather is kind, I hope to complete the challenge in about 8hrs - I don't really want to think about how long it will take if the weather is unkind - it can snow in June where we will be cycling!

If you think what I'm doing is worthy of a wee donation then please help me support the Glasgow Childrens Holiday Scheme so that they can continue the great work they do helping others more disadvantaged than ourselves
