Story
I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in August 2019 and have undergone two operations to remove my entire large bowel, and have my stoma reversed. I was given the amazing news that I was all
clear just before Christmas and returned to training in January.
I've become a patron of Bowel Cancer UK which is really special to me. I was 26 and coming to the peak of my career when I was diagnosed with bowel cancer. You never expect it to happen to you, especially being so young and otherwise fit and healthy. Although bowel cancer is more common in the over 50s, it can affect people of all ages. More than
2,500 people under 50, just like me, are diagnosed with the disease in the UK every year.
Bowel Cancer UK funds and supports targeted research, provides expert information and support to patients and their families, educates the public and professionals about the disease and campaigns for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.
Like so many charities, Bowel Cancer UK has been hit by the coronavirus pandemic with events cancelled and a loss of income. I'll be cycling 26 miles on Sunday as part of the 2.6 Challenge to raise money for them. I know many people are concerned about their own financial situation but if you're able to sponsor me then please do. Donations of any size (£2.60, £26 or even £260!) will make a huge difference to their aim to stop people dying of bowel cancer.
Thank you and stay safe and well.
