I have been volunteering for the Glasgow Children's Holiday Scheme for about 8 years now and on the 27th May 2018 will attempt to cycle 103 miles across the Scottish Highlands to raise some funds for them to continue the great work they do.
They are a small, local charity which provides caravan holidays for children and their families living within the Greater Glasgow area who, for one reason or another, are disadvantaged or socially excluded and holidays are simply out of reach - 20% of families in Glasgow are income deprived and 33% of Glasgow's children live in poverty.
Through these holidays, there is the opportunity to help address the imbalance of support, motivating and equipping the child to break out of what may be a longstanding family cycle of poverty and just as importantly, experience fun and enjoyment in a safe and constructive way. For many of these children and families, it is the only holiday they get and is a chance to get a break away from the challenges of daily life, try new things and create happy memories.
They are solely reliant on donations and grants, so if you think the challenge I am doing is worthy of a wee donation for this very worthwhile charity, then please donate today. All donations, no matter the size, really mean a lot to this small charity and are very much appreciated.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
