Every day, hundreds of people in the UK call the Samaritans when they are feeling suicidal or are in despair. By dialing 116 123,  callers can share and explore their feelings with an empathetic volunteer in a confidential and safe environment. 

Inner South West London Samaritans is a branch that is close to my heart. It is run totally by volunteers and relies on funding for day-to-day maintenance. This includes making sure IT systems remain up-to-date, that volunteers can travel home in a cab safely after night shifts, the storage cupboard remains full of refreshments, and that any structural repairs can be carried out on the building.
