I would like any funds raised to go to my local Norwich and Waveney Branch of the MNDA who have helped me so much.

MND is a fatal, rapidly progressive disease which attacks the nerves in the brain which are responsible for movement so muscles no longer work. It can affect limbs, speech, swallow and diaphragm which means you can no longer breathe. 6 people are diagnosed every day in the UK and 6 people die every day; 5,000 adults are living with it at any one time. MND kills 33% of people in a year of diagnosis and more than 50% in 2 years. Your risk of developing it around 1 in 300.

Unfortunately I was the 1 in 300 who developed it 13 years ago. I can walk round the house with my walker but outside need a wheelchair or mobility scooter. My speech is almost non existent and my swallow is getting worse which puts me at risk of choking every time I eat. Despite this I have a good quality of life and count myself lucky to have a rare form which is slower burning.

MNDA has helped me over the years including, advice about my condition, loaning me a riser recliner chair, setting up a support group which I go to every month and supplying a visitor who after 8 years of support has become a trusted friend. 

MNDA also fund lots of research which one day will find a cure.
