Race the Sun Brecon Beacons 2022 · 11 June 2022 ·
What’s Appening is a team of ladies who have signed-up to Race the Sun in aid of Action Medical Research, a children’s charity funding vital research to help defeat the diseases that devastate the lives of sick and disabled babies, children and young people.
Who we are: Anna, Kate, Stacey, Gayle. We have come together to take on the challenge that involves an 88Km cycle, 12 Km climb and 2 Km kayak in the Brecon Beacons in June. Starting at dawn we must finish by dusk to race the sun. We also need to raise £1800 to support Action Medical Research.
Why we are doing this.
Anna: “Having worked in the healthcare industry most of my career I believe in the importance of medical research to find the new treatments, vaccinations and cures that help us to live long, productive and happy lives. Action medical research is a great charity whose work helps to give everyone that opportunity. This will be a real challenge, I haven’t cycled more than five miles for years (and then its only to the pub and back!) I am determined to do this though for a great cause.”
Gayle: "I am very lucky to have two amazing, healthy, children who impress me more and more each day, so this is such a great way for me to try to help others who might not be quite so lucky. This challenge is well outside of my comfort zone, and means a huge amount of work to get fit enough to succeed - The training starts NOW and any support you can give, however small, to help keep the motivation level up will be super-appreciated". Love Gayle x
Stacey: "It’s been a few years since my last challenge, and Anna thought
it was time I did another! I cycle on an electric bike, and haven’t canoed
since my Uni days (when the opposing team kept me upright during a polo match), so this will be a true challenge."
Kate: "With two small children spending time out on my bike is somewhat of a distant memory, but when Anna asked me to join her for this challenge I jumped at the chance! Probably an extreme way of cramming in some 'child-free-me-time' but I'll take it! This challenge will really push me in ways I haven't been before but I'm excited (terrified?!) to give it a go!"
About Action Medical Research
Action Medical Research is the leading UK-wide charity saving and changing children’s lives through medical research. For 65 years we’ve helped pioneer ways to prevent disease and develop treatments benefiting millions of people. Our research has helped to beat polio in the UK, develop ultrasound, fight meningitis and prevent stillbirths. But we urgently need to develop more new treatments and cures for sick babies and children and we can’t do it without you. Join our fight for little lives.
