Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In April 2016, our gorgeous 5 year old son, Luke, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. It felt like our world had ended, but here we are now with a 10 year old who is 17 months off treatment and life is getting back to "normal" again. I realised last year that I am ready for a challenge! Covid-19 cancelled my original plan of the Jurassic Coast for May 2020 so now I am aiming for the new SW Coast2Coast Challenge in July 2021.

Young Lives vs Cancer (formally CLIC Sargent) are a charity who have supported us from day one, we have received grants from them - No one considers the cost of Cancer, Rich drove 600 miles in the first 10 days travelling to and from Bristol Children's Hospital, and I had to live on microwave meals for those 10 days, all this adds up and you can't work so have to rely on sick pay. We had the support of a CLIC Sargent Social Worker - Oh the paper work, forms to fill in for disability allowance, carers allowance, charities you can apply to, respite care you can apply for, explaining to work you won't be there for a year, these are all things our social worker helped us with. Meeting up with other families - Air days, Baking days, Christmas Parties, Sibling days. Probably the most important for us was the support of CLIC funded community nurses, possibly the 2 most important people in our lives for the duration of Luke's treatment. Luke's nurses would come to us as much as they possibly could, they were and still are on the end of the phone if we need them. They would visit Luke in school for blood tests, so he didn't have to miss too much, every 2 weeks and they were there to support him through every lumbar puncture all 24 of them.

These are just the ways that Young Lives vs Cancer have supported us, they also have home from homes, parent and child advisory groups, they campaign to make life easier for parents and children going through the hell that is child hood Cancer, they truly are just amazing.

If you feel like you would like to donate I, and Young Lives vs Cancer, will be eternally grateful!
