Story
At 6.30am on Saturday 3rd August, myself and a group of friends will set off with the aim of climbing the highest mountains in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon) in 24 hours.
When I said yes to this, I had no idea what the National Three Peaks Challenge actually was (and may have had a glass or two of wine by then). But once I found out, I was then too stubborn to change my mind. And so multiple walking began, covering the South and North Downs, as well as the Yorkshire Peaks and all corners of London (often fortunately in great company of friends!).
Water Aid is a charity I've supported for years - as their message is clear - clean water and sanitation for all. While we're basking in this month's heat, clinging onto our bottles of purchased or tap water while out and about, or on the stuffy tube, many are still out there without access to clean water, in temperatures regularly higher than here, and set to be even higher as climate change continues to take its toll. Drinking dirty water leads to illnesses, keeping kids out of school and adults unable to work. Water Aid funds projects that help improve access to clean water across the world.
Am expecting the challenge to be hard and frankly horrible at times. Especially as we get ready to climb Snowdon in the middle of the night, to be done by 6.30am within the 24hr mark. Knowing that this is helping raise money (even if not much given how late I've set this up!) for such a great cause will be a massive help in powering through the exhaustion, with a reminder of this every time I take a sip of water along the way.
Thanks very much for the support and I promise to stop talking about walking once this is all done!
