*I am self-funding this, so the charity will receive 100% of donations made*
This October I will be challenging myself and taking part in an 8 day trek of the Great Wall of China. For anyone who knows me they know the flight alone is enough of a challenge ;-)
I have chosen MASH, based in Manchester, as the charity I want to support. The work that they do is so important and after being to their centre on a number of occasions I have seen just how they can help to positively change someone's life.
MASH offers support and advice to women who are in sex work, many of who have come from backgrounds of abuse or have encountered it whilst being homeless. Their centre provides somewhere safe for these women to go that offers everything from a health clinic, life support skills, needle exchange and therapeutic services. Women can drop in, confidentially and without judgement to receive the care and help they need.
A Detective Superintendent from the Greater Manchester Police said; "MASH have been at the forefront of supporting and working with a previously hard to reach client group, and as a direct result of their partnership with Greater Manchester Police, we are no seeing an increase in reports from sex workers.
MASH have been a key partner in the landscape across Manchester, and have done much to influence police training and improve the way we respond to vulnerable victims. They have played an active role within the Strategic Partnership Group on tackling rape and serious sexual offences."
