Almost 40 years ago during my primary school days at St Patrick’s R.C. Newport, I putting my hand up to volunteer for the lead role in the school play. ‘Piece of cake’ I remember thinking, until the curtains went back and I froze ridged in front of the whole school and I vividly remember what have I got myself into now !!!!!!!!
Well they say history repeats itself.... Volunteering to run the London Marathon seemed like a good idea until my name was drawn from the Lliswerry runners hat and my place confirmed. Again I froze and thought oh no what have I got myself into now!!!!!!!
My training is now on target and I completed my longest run on Sunday of 18 miles and can only say that I finished the same day as I started, so I guess that's progress.... A big Thank You to all at Liswerry runners for their support and patience ....
As I type this there are 52 days 23 hours and 24 minutes left till the big day and the time left to find the extra 8+ miles needed to finish this ma mouth race.
At the moment all my training regime consist of four runs per week ....in between restaurant work and home life everything else seems on hold poor Mike will soon be learning to use the washing machine !!!!! (perhaps thats a plus) ,
Im just looking forward to not having a total body ache and to watching the next years London marathon from the comfort of my armchair !!!!!!
Oh blooming heck - my final update, as today is the last Sunday till race day - All long runs done and training miles are now really truly in the bag or hopefully in the feet!!
A hugh big thank you to all my friends and family who have put up with my marathon training over the last few months and for their endless support and encouragement.
P.S Don't forget to watch the race
