BUPA Great North Run 2008 · 5 October 2008 ·
My lifelong aversion to exercise is coming to an end this October when I will be swapping Manolos for Mizunos to take part in the Great North Run .
I am taking this opportunity to raise some cash for a charity that's close to my heart: Cardiac Risk in the Young, CRY. Last summer I was left devastated when my school friend Nic died suddenly and unexpectedly. She was 28 and had just become a mum for the first time. It took several months to discover that she had an underlying heart condition, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
The charity CRY was initially formed by bereaved families to raise awareness. It currently promotes heart screening, ECG testing, contributes to medical research and provides support to young people diagnosed with heart conditions and counselling for families. I discovered the charity when it funded a fast-track cardiac pathology lab for sudden deaths at the Brompton hospital where I work.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cardiac Risk in the Young gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.Charities pay a small fee for our service.
