Story

Wednesday 18th April 2007

Ever heard of a thing called a Plantar Fascia?  Neither had I till last week.  Apparently it is tissue that connects the middle bones of the foot to the heel and supports the arch.  Well mine is trying to detach itself.  Apparently this is quite a common complaint among us 'elite' athletes.

Yesterday my doctor and physio conferred and decided that I had no hope of making it round the marathon course and was risking long term damage.

I am desperately disappointed but the Charity have already arranged for me to run next year instead.  If you go ahead and donate you will be an amazingly early bird and even more importantly Gordon Brown is reducing the amount of the tax rebate later in the year, so a gift now will be worth 10% more (UK tax payers).

Anyway I am looking forward to many visits to the podiatrist, a ruthless weight reduction plan and months and months of military fitness training. Oh, joy.

Love A

Hi all

Since this photo was taken I have unfortunately got quite a bit fatter (well to be honest five stone fatter), however the good news is that I also seem to have got at least ten years younger.

My target time for completing the London Marathon has been set at 19 hours, 24 minutes and 13 seconds, based on my current speeds and allowing for a picnic or two.

Unlike most Marathon entrants, I have no burning desire to compete in this event and am physically totally unsuited to the challenge.  So why am I doing it?  Prostate cancer and the secondaries is an unbelievably painful disease, so earlier and better testing and more effective cures can't come soon enough.

So, for all the men in our lives, please dig deep and sponsor me online.

The run is dedicated to all the dear friends and family who have suffered from cancer, in particular Col. Mike Campbell-Lamerton, who was a great international sportsman, a hero of the Korean War and a man who helped many, many people change and enrich their lives.  I am proud to be his niece.

Please, please, please pass the URL of my Sponsorship Page to all your friends/family/contacts/people you meet in the street and any billionaires you may happen to know.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also an efficient way to sponsor me: Bob Champion Cancer Trust will receive your money faster and if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.  However, cash and cheques are also great and I can always send you a gift aid form for the tax.

Many thanks for your support.

Annabel
