On 23rd May I shall be staggering 26.2 miles across Edinburgh - to raise money for the St. Mary Magdalene Centre for Refugees and Asylum Seekers.

The Centre, based in Islington, London, welcomes around 70 refugees and asylum seekers every day, providing English Language classes, art projects, hot meals, food parcels and practical support.  As well as providing pathways to integration for the refugees themselves, the Centre aims to work with the local communtiy to help build awareness and understanding of the issues surrounding asylum.  Its value is perhaps best expressed in the words of its users:

 

“I didn’t hope anymore that anything would change... It was the worst time in my life.  Then St. Mary Magdalene Centre open their door for me.  This place is my home.”

 

Whilst ESOL provision is funded largely through a franchise with Waltham Forest College, the running of all other services is almost wholly reliant on small grants and individual donations.  Please help us to keep the door open.
