Story
I shall wake up on my 70th birthday rough-sleeping in London. But I am one of the lucky ones. I'll be safe, in a secure place with friendly people. I'll have breakfast in a church and go home for a shower.
The West London Day Centre supports people who are not so fortunate. It provides a wide range of facilities and advice, and this appeal is for their winter night shelter: a well-established scheme for keeping people safe, warm and fed during the winter months.
The night shelter runs for 8 months of the year: 13 churches and one synagogue take part, offering a hot meal, a warm safe place to sleep and breakfast for 15 homeless guests every night. The shelters are run by volunteers but professional workers coordinate them and help the guests find accommodation.
I have seen at first hand how glad our guests are to have safe and warm temporary accommodation and how delighted they are when they are given the small amount of help needed to regain their independence.
A donation of £10 would pay for one of our homeless guests to have a half an hour, one-on-one advice session with a project worker at the day centre. This would help them identify accommodation options and look at employment options.
Please sponsor the sleep out with a small donation and thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
