This year Covid-19 has prevented all fundraising events by The Friends of St Mary's Mendlesham, who usually work so hard to raise funds to maintain and repair our beautiful Grade 1 listed church. Like most historic churches, it relies on donations for its upkeep and restoration.

By sponsoring me taking part in the Ride and Stride organised by SHCT you can help both St Mary's and other churches in Suffolk, as the money will be divided equally. 

Interestingly, this national event grew through a Suffolk initiative, the SHCT building on 3 years of 'The Cycle Chase' in the Stowmarket deanery over 40 years ago - the brainchild of The Revd. Hugh Wake, Rector of Great Finborough, Harleston and Onehouse. I cycled in the first one and visited all 20 churches which were then in the deanery,  including a stretch along the A140, which wasn't as busy in those days...

Now I'm a Gran and want to get home safely, so don't plan to cycle along that road, but have chosen a rural route with most churches spaced several miles apart.
