Thank you for taking the time to read this.
In December 2016, after an 18 month battle with bowel cancer, my beautiful, much loved brother, John, was facing the end of his precious time with us. It was the most heartbreakingly sad and difficult time, and it felt like there was very little anyone could say or do to help. But when John was first admitted to St Peter's Hospice we knew he was in the best possible hands. The hospice provided a calm and comfortable environment where John seemed relaxed and in control, which was so important to him. The staff enabled him to maintain his dignity and independence whilst being attentive and compassionate. We will be forever grateful for the support they gave to both John and the rest of us.
The grieving process is incredibly tough and there are no quick fixes but we have found that getting out to run in the fresh air, having time to think and the release of some endorphins is great therapy! That said, three months ago, the furthest Katie and I had run was 10K so to attempt more than double this is quite some challenge!
Our enjoyment of running was also shared by John, who was in fact, in training for his first marathon when he became poorly. Therefore, it feels particularly fitting for us to follow in John's footsteps, raising money for a cause close to his heart by doing something he loved!
All donations are so gratefully received, thank you.
