Story
Friends in West Wales have become very concerned about the injustice suffered on a daily basis by the people of Palestine, and decided two years ago to take the simple action of forming a friendship with a Palestinian community in the northern West Bank - Rummaneh. Since then many of us have visited and been much welcomed by our new friends. They already had an established Charitable Association which works to improve the living conditions of the people of the village, particularly women and children. Last year we managed to raise enough money to build a fixed canopy for the kindergarten school.
But our visits have also confirmed our worst fears about the injustice experienced by the people of Palestine on a daily basis. And the more we study the history of this part of the Middle East, the more we are aware of the role that our country played in causing it.
In Palestine we will walk with partner organisations of Muslim, Christian and Jewish faiths and learn more from them. The walk left London on 10th June - the fiftieth anniversary of the occupation of Gaza and the West Bank - the longest occupation on earth. We will arrive in Jerusalem on the hundredth anniversary of the signing of the Balfour Declaration. The West Wales Friends of Palestine are ashamed of this document and the events that followed it.
We wish to see a just peace for all those who call the Holy Land home.
Any sponsorship money raised will be shared equally between the West Wales Friends of Palestine:
