Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We set off from Walney near Barrow in Furness on the morning of 1/9/09 and reached Whitby on the evening of 4/9/09, 195 miles later. Along the way we survived days of rain, hail, wind and unseasonal cold whilst peddling almost 50 miles each day. We enjoyed the steep fells in Cumbria, myself in particular as I nose dived into the side of one, having catapulted over my handlebars!
We climbed up to the famous Tan Hill on Day 3 with the wind behind us, fortunately and went onto experience the frustration of almost 15 punctures in the lanes near Barnard Castle which were populated by maniacal 4 wheel drivers intent on bagging a cyclist or 2!
The ride on Day 4 was a slog to Great Ayton before a hard ascent onto the beautiful moors above Whitby. A stunning sunset and another rainbow greeted us on our way into Whitby before a photo on the beach and a fish and chip supper.
We had great laughs, a few tears, almost and some good beer along the way. The children- Millie 11, Rachel 13 and Harry 4 were brilliant and kept us oldies going.
Please support the 2 charities for which this ride was done. One is local (Martin House) whilst the other is international (FOGADD) but both provide support to children who because of illness, disability, race or poverty are amongst our most vulnerable members of society.
Thank you
