My mum lived with a view of the bay for 40 years. She loved it but always remembered how treacherous it can be.

When I was little it was still sand. Easy to go out and get stuck  I remember her having to pull first me and then my wellies out on one summer’s day. Now it’s turned to marsh near the coast, but still just as dangerous further out.

We would like to support Bay search and rescue, who helped us find her.

“Late afternoon, a coral beam kisses the earth across the bay,
To briefly wrap the waning day in rosy mystery.
Slowly the blushing sunset dies,
Now, calm beneath a violet sky, waves quietly lap while darkness falls And, casting aside her cloudy shawls,
The moon, that glowing princess of the night,
Quickens the dormant sea with rippling light.
A killing beauty.
Deadly tides have claimed a tragic toll of lives.
Throughout the centuries shifting sands, gripping like iron,
Have sentenced bands of travellers to a bitter end, lonely and cold. Brimming with beauty though this place may be,
Never forget the power of the sea.”
