Story

I first learnt about Mouth Cancer when I got it! During an examination at my dental surgery 'something strange' was noticed and I was referred to see a consultant at our local hospital. After a biopsy and CT and MRI scans it was confirmed I had Mouth Cancer. Surgery was carried out to remove the cancer, followed by a course of radiotherapy. We hoped that was the end of it, but 2 years later I had another one, again spotted by my dentist on a routine check up (this had fallen between my regular hospital check-ups). Subsequently I have had 2 more mouth cancers and am currently hoping there won't be any more! What I want to stress is that the fact that I am here doing this walk comes back to EARLY DIAGNOSIS, for which I give huge thanks to my dentist at the time for spotting  'something strange' and referring me on to a specialist. The Mouth Cancer Foundation does great work in raising awareness and we would like to help them do so. Your donations will help them in their efforts. My message to anyone is to have regular dental check-ups and in the meantime, any mouth ulcers or rough patches, areas of redness that don't clear up in a couple of weeks - get them checked out. The next bit is from the Mouth Cancer Foundation, so I'll stop now and leave it to them.

Mouth Cancer is on the Increase! The Mouth Cancer Foundation exists to raise awareness and support for mouth cancer. The charity endeavours to promote, protect, educate and support the public. Informing people on the signs, symptoms, risk factors, facts and figures and key causes of mouth cancer is extremely important, and something which the charity is very passionate about. There are over 8700 new cases of mouth cancer in the UK each year. 2722 lives are lost each year. World wide the disease affects 650,000 people per year. Thank you for visiting the Mouth Cancer 16th annual 10 KM Awareness Walk fundraising page! The charity is encouraging as many people as possible to take part in this FREE 10 KM sponsored walk between Friday 1st October and Tuesday 30th November 2021 to include Mouth Cancer Action Month.
