Last year, through your very generous support, we managed to raise over £25,000 for the Christel House School Charity in Cape Town, South Africa.
This went a long way to providing a much needed broadband hub for high-speed internet access in many of the classrooms. I have just returned from visiting the school, which now has almost a 1000 pupils of all ages.
I have pledged this year to try and raise sufficient funding to provide both the lower and senior school with broadband in every classroom. The enhanced broadband has already revolutionized the kids learning experience. I am also looking to improve the teaching of maths and science to prepare the pupils for the job market.
Christel House is the most amazingly effective charity taking children living in extreme poverty in squatter camps in India, Mexico and
South Africa and providing them with not just education, but also access to regular healthcare, nutritious meals, guidance
counselling, career planning, family assistance and mentoring, as they
transition from school to further study courses and to the world of work.
Every penny donated goes to the children, as the
founder, Christel DeHaan, pays for all administrative expenses.
Christel House is a holistic model, which
believes in giving kids a hand up and not a hand out!
