It carries out search and rescue operations for people in difficulties in the Peak District National Park and beyond. It also helps the police, fire, and ambulance services with urban incidents throughout Greater Manchester whenever the team's specialist skills, equipment and manpower are necessary.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Today is my Dad's 73 birthday - he's the one on the left. Since Sunday he has been fighting the fire on Saddleworth Moor with his colleagues from Oldham Mountain Rescue Team.

Like the professional firefighters they have faced challenging and dangerous conditions: walls of flame ten's of feet high, peat ground that is burning under foot on top of 30C temperatures the rest of us find uncomfortably hot as we go to get an iced coffee.

Unlike professional firefighters they volunteer to do what they do.

All Mountain Rescue Teams are voluntary and ENTIRELY funded by donations. They get no help from Government.

I would be hugely grateful if you could donate just £1 in recognition of their service not just in fighting this awful fire but for the rest of what they do all year round.

Thank you.

Anthony

PS My Dad has given over 40 years service to Oldham MRT and MR England & Wales and I'm incredibly proud of him as would his late wife be.
