Story
I will be taking part in the London Marathon for the second time, this time on behalf of Noah's Ark Childrens Hospice - for those who are unaware of Noah's Ark - this charity is running mostly on charitable donations and the support of local businesses and their amazing volunteers and Trustee's. Noah's Ark is a hospice for very ill children and provides everything from clinical, practical and emotional support to babies, children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families.
Noah's Ark Children's Hospice was established in December 1999 by Honorary Trustee, Michael McInerney, following the death of a child in his extended family. There were no children’s hospice services available in the borough which meant that they were not afforded the support and help they needed. He saw the need for a children’s hospice in North London so that no family would have to go through the same.
In 2017, Noah’s Ark began construction of The Ark, a purpose-built children’s hospice building for North and Central London and Hertsmere. The Ark was built to complement theHospice-at-Home and community-based services. The building is now complete. It will provide, amongst other things, 24-hour end-of-life, post-death and bereavement care, overnight stays and sensory music and art rooms. The state-of-the-art building is set within a beautiful 7.5 acre nature reserve in Barnet.
It's hard to find the 'right' words to say for this 'marathon story' I can only hope that it speaks for itself, for anyone who finds them self in a position needing Noah's Ark, it is absolutely life changing, emotionally draining and heartbreaking, we can only imagine. I want to be able to do a little bit to help the place that helps them! I am lucky enough to be in a position to do this by being able to run the marathon. Lets dig deep and give a little back!
Thank you!
