Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm Anton, and for the next two years, I will be working as Organisational Development Advisor with the Gambian Association for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing (GADHOH). Supported by Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), I will be helping facilitate the empowerment of deaf children and their families.
I know first hand how fortunate I have been to have had the opportunities to chase my dreams and realise my potential. It hasn't been easy sailing, but every barrier I break, each obstacle I overcome, and achievement I reach, reinforces my belief that losing your hearing doesn't mean a life sentenced to the sidelines. I hope my example will reassure the families of deaf children in the Gambia, and help enable them all to live the quality of life they deserve.
This isn't about me though.
The more I learn about what the VSO does and the people that volunteer with them, the more I realise the importance of their work. I know I will look back many years from now, and remember the many hearts I would have touched and the lives I had helped change, hopefully for the better. In fact this is what makes the VSO really stand out for me.
It isn't just money that you will be donating. From your kind and thoughtful contribution will be the gift of volunteers, whose skills, knowledge, experience and personal qualities add value to communities; to people with disabilities; to the rights of women; to education and healthcare; to strenghening the governance of developing countries, and much more.
I'm excited about the VSO and am committed to making a difference. I hope you are too.
So please dig deep into your pockets and help us change lives.
I for one, will be very grateful.
