Encephalitis International is the only non-profit of any size anywhere in the world providing direct support and information to people affected by encephalitis (brain inflammation); raising awareness of the condition; and driving research to improve diagnoses, treatments and outcomes.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In October 2014, I was diagnosed with an Autoimune Virus - Voltage Gated Limbic Encethalitis where Anti-bodies attacked my immune system. Encephalitis is swelling of the brain; the Limbic area of of the brain controls many things including memory and for a while I lost all of my short-term memory and was hospitalised.

It is now February 2015 and I am still living with many of the side effects of my illness such as:

Seizures/Epilepsy (as part of this I also had to surrender my driving licence)                                                    confusion, memory and cognitive issues;                                                                  Ringing in ears/hearing                                                              Fatigue

When I came out of Hospital I knew very little about my illness. The Encethalitis Society were a great help with their resources, website and easy to read information. Anything that you can donate to The Encethalitis Society; www.encethalitis.info; would be greatly appreciated.

For my part, I will be completing a bike-ride with work colleagues and friends in June 2015 - this is my personal challenge physically and mentally to beat Encethalitis and it's side effects.
