Story

Allen & Overy Alumni Charity of the Year

Introducing the International Nepal Fellowship and its work to raise living standards for the people of remote Nepal.

For the first time this year, we have decided to establish an Allen & Overy Alumni Charity of the Year. One charity will, in subsequent years, be selected each year by the Alumni Board and will be featured in that year’s Alumni Yearbook and on the Alumni Website. In addition, there will be various events during the year at which Allen & Overy Alumni will be encouraged to make contributions to the Alumni Charity.

A charity will qualify for selection if an Allen & Overy Alumnus spends a significant amount of their time working in some capacity for it. Also, the amount which could be raised by the Alumni needs to be substantial in relation to the charity’s overall financing and/or is able to be put to an identifiable and specific project.

If you have suggestions as to which charity would qualify for inclusion please let Alex Pease (alex@manorfarmkilmeston.com) or Jenny Enever (jenny.enever@allenovery.com) know by email.

This year The Allen & Overy Alumni Charity of the Year will be the International Nepal Fellowship (INF), with which Alumnus Richard Sykes has been involved for some years. You can read about his work to date in the Alumni Yearbook 2007 (see pages 74-79). We hope in next year’s Yearbook to do a feature on the use to which the money raised by our Alumni has been put.

How can you help?

INF is a Christian mission that has been engaged in health and development work in western Nepal for more than 50 years. It is the oldest such organisation in Nepal, having been established shortly after Nepal’s borders were first opened to the outside world in 1952.

This year we are hoping to support a project to provide a water supply to the village of Bhi in Mugu district which would totally transform village life. Mugu is one of the poorest and most remote districts of Nepal. The cost of this project would be £35,000. It would be marvellous if A&O Alumni could fund the whole of this project. If we do succeed in raising this sum, we will publish a report on the work in next year’s yearbook.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor the International Nepal Fellowship.  They will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Any surplus funds received from Allen & Overy Alumni for the Bhi water supply project will go to other Mugu projects.

Many thanks for your support.

Best wishes
