Completing the Camino for Caroline

On 20th May 2021, our beautiful wife and mother sadly passed away after fighting a long, hard battle with breast cancer for 13 years. After first being given the all clear in 2009, Caroline grasped a whole new outlook on life. Anyone who knew Caroline would remember her passion for the outdoors, specifically walking and with her positive and upbeat attitude she wasn't going to let any illness stop her from achieving some of her lifelong goals and dreams.
In those short 13 years, she completed numerous treks, fundraising for Action Cancer to raise money for other individuals who were battling with cancer like herself. This included the Great Wall of China, the Inca Trail Peru, the Isle of Wight and she more recently planned to climb Kilimanjaro. In 2017, Caroline and her friends began to walk the Camino de Santiago, a 500 mile pilgrimage walk beginning in France and ending at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Every year, they spent a week completing the different routes of the walk. Caroline was well over halfway of this trek whenever the cancer came back which meant, unfortunately, she never got to fully complete the walk and receive the certificate at the finish line.
This year on the 6th of June, which would have been Caroline's 53rd birthday, as a family we are travelling to Spain to walk the last 100km of the Camino trail, all in 5 days, and receive the certificate in memory of her. In doing so, we are going to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity that helped Caroline and our entire family throughout her illness. We don't know how we could have gotten through the toughest days without Macmillan so we want to give back to them as much as possible.
All donations will be going to MacMillan Newry and Mourne
